Hi, my name is Giuseppe, and I never thought I would be in a position where I’d need to ask for help like this.

Recently, I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease (ILD), and my life changed very quickly. What started as breathing issues has turned into something much more serious. After undergoing a lung biopsy, my condition worsened, and I also ended up battling a coronavirus infection that made everything even harder.

Now, even simple things like walking leave me short of breath. My oxygen levels drop with activity, and I’ve had to rely on oxygen support just to get through the day.

I work at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and I’ve always been someone who shows up, works hard, and takes care of responsibilities. Being out on medical leave has been incredibly difficult, both physically and financially. While I am receiving partial pay through my union benefits, it’s only about 75% of my income, and it’s not enough to keep up with everything.

Bills don’t stop — rent/mortgage, utilities, food, and medical expenses continue to pile up while I’m trying to focus on healing and getting my strength back.

This has been overwhelming, not just for me but for my family as well. I’m doing everything I can to recover, but I need help getting through this period without falling behind financially.

I’m asking for support to help cover:

• Monthly bills (housing, utilities)

• Medical-related expenses

• Daily living costs while I’m unable to work fully
