No tourism, no presence leads to staff poverty, no conservation of wildlife and reduced anti-poaching patrols. Help us by donating to save peoples livelihood’ and so they can continue the conservation of the wildlife who are now vulnerable.
Covid19 Urgent Appeal - Selous Game Reserve, now Nyerere National Park is a protected area in southern Tanzania and a designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Protecting the 62 local staff/guides & their family’s welfare at Lake Manze Camp, Selous/Neyere is our main goal as well as keeping a presence in the park in order to keep poachers away and wildlife safe. We need your urgent help to fund staff salaries and in turn keep them out of the extreme poverty they are facing and limit the impact of poaching.
Under the same umbrella and included in our appeal we also have Mdonya Old river Camp in the Ruaha National Park which staff and animals share the same fate. Protection of this iconic key conservation area and its 45 staff members are of utmost importance in the region.
Total lack of tourism due to Covid19 and total loss of revenue has resulted in the inability to retain staff which in turn has left staff struggling to feed their families and to keep a roof over their head. Devastating floods this year meant hardship was already being faced.
With your support to fund staff salaries, we can change the devastating ripple impact covid has caused!
No staff, also means no presence in the park and an increased risk of poaching - by helping the staff we aim to help prevent poaching, due to their presence in the park, by conducting patrols to show presence and the reporting of any illegal activity.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
The best way to help us is to come visit! Resume traveling and come and enjoy this beautiful landscape. If you cannot travel yet due to restrictions still in place, your generous donations will guarantee a minimum wage for our staff for the months to come, possibly the whole year ahead. Supporting staff not only allows us to save their families and keep them out of poverty, but also enables us to protect the wildlife. It will also allow us to keep vehicles in the area to show presence and discourage any poaching activities.
The covid 19 pandemic has put strain on many households, but please put Lake Manze Camp and Mdonya Old River Camp on your bucket list and book for a future date as this will also have an impact on the staff when travel restrictions are lifted.
For any donation above GBP 300 you will receive a voucher for a 10% discount for one person for a trip to Lake Manze and Mdonya if booked directly with us
WHO WE ARE
Essential Destinations started with a team of naturalists with past experience in research and conservation projects working on Elephant, Lion, Wildebeest and Zebra with the belief that the best way to keep Tanzania’s wilderness truly wild, is to champion respectful and sustainable eco-tourism. For years, we have monitored, collected key data, protected the wildlife and supported the local community in providing them with careers and in turn kept them out of poverty, as well as supported several conservation NGO’S such as Pams Foundation and STEPS focused on anti-poaching. We introduced recycling projects, solar power and got the camps to a carbon neutral status. The camps structures are also consciously designed, to remain simple and be non intrusive to blend with the surrounding environment.
Thank you! No matter how big or small every donation counts and will change a life.
