Support Grenadian Kids: John Whitsett's Sailing Legacy

Donation protected
The adventurous, 85-year-long life of John Frederick Whitsett came to a close on October 27, 2025, in his beloved adopted country of Grenada. Please honor John with a donation that will continue his past work teaching sailing and life skills to young people in Grenada.

In the words of the current Petit Calivigny Yacht Club (PCYC) Commodore, Dave Schiever, "No one benefited more from John's relentless energy than the youngest sailors of Grenada."

While John explored many interests during his life, providing Grenadian children with sailing skills and competition opportunities was his greatest passion. John and fellow sailing enthusiasts founded the Petit Calivigny Yacht Club (PCYC) in 2010 as an avenue to promote sailing for young and old alike. The youth of Grenada, however, truly captured his heart, and, thus, he narrowed his focus and energy on making hundreds of hours of lessons available to Grenadian children. With John's guidance and dedication, PCYC's Youth Sailing Program (joined with Woburn Wind Warriors youth sailing team) was able to send young Grenadians to three international events over the last two years.

During John's recent memorial held at Le Phare Blue, the kids of PCYC recounted some of John's words of wisdom ("G#* D!@^ it, get out there! You can do this."). Many children and young adults expressed gratitude for the impact of John's efforts. Karina, Noah, Twinkles, Bubbles, Kishon, and the kids of PCYC are pictured at this recent event.

The kids, members of PCYC, and John's family all hope that we can not only support the existing programs but also make John's wildest aspirations a reality... John was working for MORE.
  • More equipment (Coach Karina reports that they are down to just 2 Hobies)
  • More covered travel expenses and fees for competitions
  • More scholarships for professional certifications and education so that young adults can pursue careers on the water
  • More children's lessons
  • More money to pay program graduates for their coaching skills and time
  • More (you fill in the blank)

Every dollar of your donation in John's memory will go toward keeping the children in Woburn Bay and the rest of Grenada on the water. Thank you for honoring your/our friend, mentor, father, fellow sailor, teacher, ..., John F. Whitsett, by contributing to this special cause: Youth Sailing in Grenada. It is our hope that this Go Fund Me campaign will be the start of something BIG.

Thank you,

Kids and adults of PCYC, Egmont, Grenada
John's family: Jeff, Carolyn, Sam and Owen, Peter, Kim, Austin and Allyson, Lisa, Steve, Else and Linnea, Kristian, Lillian, Anneke and Aksel
