On July 1st, Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 Hurricane of immense and unprecidented power made landfall on the islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada called the damage on the island of Carriacou “Almost Armageddon-Like”.
The beautiful Island of Spice is the land of my birth. Many of my family still call the island home. The destruction has been enormous. My family and countless others have lost their homes and way of life. There is no food and no water. You may have seen photographs of Grenada. The storm literally stripped the foliage from the land.
Grenada exported Cocoa, Nutmeg and Bananas. These and other crops such as Mangoes, Tomatoes, Lettuce and Potatoes have been destroyed. It will take at least another season before sustained agriculture returns to the island nation.
As a Grenadian residing in the U.S. I feel a call to purpose. A need to organize. This is our time of need. The people of Grenada are lovely, strong and resilient. But we need your help to restore our island to its former grandeur and beauty.
Funds will be used to buy basic needs such as food, water and shelter. Funds will also be used to begin the reconstruction of Grenada. The children will also be going back to school soon and will need supplies. Please help in any way you can. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
