Support Greg's Journey of Recovery from GBS

Donation protected
Greg is a 45 year old father of a 20-month old boy and an army veteran who served in Iraq and other countries.

On March 11th, 2025, Greg woke up at his home in Hollywood, FL unable to feel his legs and unable to walk. After an ambulance transported him to the nearby civilian hospital, he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder where the body's immune system attacks the nervous system. Unfortunately, Greg has a severe case of GBS that affected not only his peripheral nervous system (like his arms and legs) but also affected his central nervous system. This caused breathing problems and other vital functions, so he was moved to the ICU and placed on mechanical ventilation.

Over the last two months, Greg has gotten a tracheostomy, fought a bout of pneumonia, and dealt with pressure injuries from being immobile long-term. Finally, on Monday, May 12, 2025, Greg was taken off the ventilator and had his trach removed. Although he still has no feeling or movement in his legs, he has gained some feeling in his arms, and he is allowed to take sips of liquids and eat bits of soft food!

We are so thankful for the great care that he has received at the hospital in Hollywood, FL! Since Greg has improved enough for short transfers between facilities, the hospital is looking to move him to a VA facility for ongoing medical care. The doctors estimate that full recovery will take 1-2 years, but they are hopeful that with time he can regain most, if not all, mobility!

Right now, we have set the goal for this GoFundMe to $14,500. This is because there is an immediate need for that amount, in order for Greg to be transferred by air ambulance to the VA hospital closer to his mother and primary caregiver, Sharon. The hospital is looking to transfer him this Friday, May 16th, and while the VA is refusing to cover the cost of transport, we are praying for the funds to be raised to make it possible.

Greg's sister Natalie has taken on his financial responsibilities while he's been in the ICU. Therefore, 100% of the donated funds will be used by her to cover his medical bills.
