Hi my friends. I'm raising money for a friend who prefers to remain anonymous. The reasons for not wanting to be public are a bit political. They were reluctant to even fundraise at all, but I feel there's no other choice.

This individual was in a very tough situation the last few weeks, having run out of money and unexpectedly losing housing in a place they had moved to where they didn't know anybody. It was one of those situations where it seemed like it would work out fine, but really didn't.

Losing the place to stay was hard enough. I tried to rally some housing, but they were able to secure a place to stay from kind neighbors who took the person in temporarily in their back yard.

This person then nearly immediately found a local job. It was tough but guaranteed some income. They sent me a few photos of the (extremely grubby) work, all night long until 6am. Hard as this all was, they didn't complain and were making the best of their situation.

And then...

"Aloha brother Greg thank you for checking in with me I was struck by a vehicle getting off of work I was able to __________ and was working in order to get back to [Hawaii] when I was struck by black SUV driving without his lights off I suffered a fractured hip and a bruised aorta from the heart to the stomach on top of losing half of two front teeth on the bottom front jaw and then one side and size are molar on my right hand top side my left hand is swollen like a balloon nerve and tissue damage and my right shoulder is a shot in the sense that I can't move it without severe pain currently in the hospital"

We kept in contact in the hospital. While this person didn't want at first to do fundraising (i.e. it's not a scam for those understandably concerned about such things), I finally convinced them that fundraising could be helpful. Especially, it can allow them somewhere to go when they get out of the hospital (unclear when that will be).

SHORT TERM GOAL — first priority

• Airfare to return to Hawaii (on short notice, perhaps $600).

LONGER TERM GOAL

• money for a working vehicle (if needed - there might still be a vehicle available in Hawaii, perhaps $1400-$1800)

• money for food, rent etc while recovering from injuries (???)

Anything you could offer would so helpful. The current politics make this individual's situation even more harrowing and painful on several levels at once. This isn't a normal difficult situation. This is one of those rare situations where a bit of financial help up front can/will make all the difference for years to come.
