Support a UGA Football Legend in His Fight Against Diabetes

Dear Friends and Family,

We come to you today with unwavering hope for a man, Greg "Muddy" Waters who has always inspired those around him. Greg, a former University of Georgia football player (#59, Defensive End 1982-1985), is a beloved husband, father, sibling, uncle and friend who served his community inspiring the Youth of the Swainsboro/Emmanuel County Recreation Department for nearly 20 years. Greg is now facing the most difficult battle of his life. Once a fierce competitor on the field and a dedicated member of his community, he is now fighting the devastating effects of diabetes, which have led to kidney failure, blindness, stroke, paralysis, and the loss of limbs.

Despite these immense challenges, his spirit remains unbreakable. His positivity and sense of humor continue to shine, uplifting those around him even in the face of adversity. His faith in God is unwavering, providing him with strength and encouragement through every obstacle. Through it all, he and his family never complain. His son, currently a college student, selflessly dedicates every weekend to coming home and supporting his father. Now, it is our turn to rally around him and his family in their time of need.

The Challenge

What started as a manageable illness has taken a heartbreaking toll on his health. As a result of diabetes, he has suffered kidney failure and must undergo dialysis multiple times a week. He has lost his sight and endured a double amputation, drastically changing his ability to live independently. Despite these immense challenges, his spirit remains strong, and he continues to inspire everyone around him with his determination and resilience.

The Need

His loving wife and son have stepped up as his primary caregivers, but they need our help. To ensure he can remain in his home they urgently need the following:

• A wheel chair friendly home that allows him to move freely and comfortably, including wheelchair-accessible doorways and a handicap-accessible bathroom.

• A wheelchair-accessible van to transport him to doctor’s appointments and essential outings.

The costs of these necessities are overwhelming. This is why we are turning to the community, family and lifelong friends to rally around him in this critical time.
