Help Greg Pollard on His Long Road to Recovery
My name is Mario Mejia and I'm advocating for Greg Pollard as his life long best friend. I've been close to Greg's family since we were teenagers and they have given me permission to start this fundraiser to raise funds for Greg's journey to recovery. These funds will be used to cover his medical and physical therapy bills along with what ever else he will need get back on his feet. Greg is expected to be released from physical therapy today, 1/27/26 and his mother & sister will handle these funds to allocate them to bills that need to be covered from Greg's accident.
In the early hours of Monday, November 3rd, our friend Greg Pollard was riding his E-scooter home after finishing a late shift at the bar where he works. As he made his way home around 1 a.m., Greg was struck by a car traveling between 25–35 mph.
At first, Greg’s adrenaline kicked in—he tried to stand up and brush it off with the driver who had stopped to check on him. But moments later, he collapsed and lost consciousness. Nearby good Samaritans quickly called for help, and Greg was rushed to the hospital.
Doctors discovered severe injuries:
A fractured skull with bleeding in the brain resulting in some seizures.
A fractured rib and spine
A partially torn ear which got stitched back on
A pulmonary embolism (blood clot in his lungs)
As of 11/11 the staff also discovered he has a collapsed lung and fracture in his tibia.
Greg has been in a coma since the accident, fighting hard each day with his family and friends by his side. Though his prognosis is hopeful, he faces a long and difficult recovery ahead with months of rehabilitation before he’ll be able to stand on his own again.
He is just days away from turning 32 and will be spending his birthday & holiday season in and out of the hospital & therapy.
Why We’re Asking for Your Help
Greg has always been the kind of person who shows up for everyone whether it’s lending an ear, making people laugh when they need it most, or giving his heart full of his unconditional love. Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.
The road ahead will be long and costly. Between medical bills, physical therapy, and lost income while he’s unable to work, Greg will need financial and emotional support to make it through this.
Your donation will go directly toward:
Greg’s medical expenses and ongoing care
Rehabilitation and therapy costs
Basic living expenses while he’s unable to work
Giving his family some relief and stability during this uncertain time
Let’s Help Greg Wake Up to Hope
Greg is a fighter, and we all believe he’ll pull through this. When he wakes up, we want him to know his community has rallied behind him & that he’s not facing this road alone.
Even the smallest donation helps and if you can’t give, please share Greg’s story with others who might. Every share, every word of encouragement, every act of kindness counts.
Let’s give Greg the strength, resources, and love he needs to heal.
Thank you for helping Greg Pollard on his journey to recovery.
Update 1/14/26
Greg has been conscious now for a few weeks and has moved from VCU hospital to Sheltering Arms rehabilitation institute. His memory is a little fuzzy and his speech isn’t 100% there but he’s committed to getting better every day. He still has a long road of recovery ahead of him and he’s hopeful to get out of the facility within the next month or so from the time this post was updated.
His eye coordination is still improving and he slurs some of his words when speaking. He can’t remember his 20’s very well but as I sat with him speaking for a few hours, he said many memories have started coming back to him.
He speaks about having an optimistic outlook at life and wants to live now with more intention. He wants to work out and run regularly once he’s out.
Thank you everyone for the love and support. Greg was so grateful to learn about the GoFundMe today, giving him hope for a full recovery.
