Support Greg Mortensen’s Recovery After Motorcycle Accident

Donation protected
On behalf of my brother Greg, a lifelong, responsible Harley rider, who was recently paralyzed from the shoulders down, we are reaching out for your support.

The Unthinkable Happened

I feel so utterly helpless trying to help my brother from the unimaginable. On March 12th, 2024, the thing every motorcycle rider is afraid to imagine, happened to my brother in a split second. One driver’s carelessness changed Greg's life forever. A passionate motorcyclist, who lived by the motto “Live To Ride, Ride To Live,” and known for his collection of Harley Davidson T-shirts, (which basically was his entire wardrobe,) Greg was enjoying an unseasonably beautiful Minnesota spring day when tragedy struck. A car's last-minute lane change on an exit ramp forced Greg's bike off the road. After tumbling and skidding for 40 yards into the grassy median, when Greg tried to move, he realized the nightmare most of us couldn’t even imagine. The resulting crash left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. At 58 years old, his career as a cement truck driver, his days of riding the open road, and his visions of his fast-approaching retirement were shattered.

The Road to Recovery

Greg woke up in the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit to devastating news: several broken vertebrae in his neck and upper back had rendered him a quadriplegic. For the past five months, he's been fighting through intensive rehabilitation, maintaining his spirit and working hard to regain some mobility in his hands.

The Challenge Ahead

Greg has finally just returned home to face his new reality. And now he faces a new set of unthinkable challenges. His home needs significant modifications to accommodate his new reality, including:

- A powered wheelchair
- An entry ramp
- Widened hallways and doorways
- A new bathroom with a roll-in shower
- A mechanical lift for bed transfers
- A handicap-equipped van

These modifications, combined with mounting medical bills and ongoing care needs like specialized rehabilitation, including physical and occupational therapy, present a financial burden that's simply overwhelming.

How You Can Help

Anyone who knows Greg will tell you that hopping on his Harley and going for a ride was his therapy. Unfortunately, his new therapy comes with a much higher price. Greg’s overcome so many battles in his life and he could really use your help with overcoming this one. We started this GoFundMe to raise funds to ease the financial strain on Greg and his family. Your generous contribution will go directly towards:

1. Home modifications to ensure Greg's comfort and independence
2. Medical expenses from his hospitalization and ongoing care
3. Specialized equipment to improve Greg's quality of life

Every dollar brings Greg closer to a more comfortable and accessible living situation.

Time is of the Essence

Since Greg's hospital release, we're in a race against time to prepare his home and secure the necessary equipment. Your immediate support can help ease the stress of this transition and allow Greg to focus on his continued recovery.

Join Us in Supporting Greg

If you’ve ever known the feeling of freedom, out riding the roads on a motorcycle, then you’ll know how extra hard this has been on my brother, to have that freedom stolen from him. Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated and will make a huge impact. Whether you can donate $5 or $500, every contribution matters. If you can't donate, please share this campaign with other Harley/Motorcycle riders, friends, family and your other social networks.
