Help Greg Moore & His Family Through Life-Saving Surgery and Recovery
After years of confusing abdominal pain and multiple hospital stays with no clear diagnosis, an unexpected finding during a routine hernia surgery finally revealed the cause of Greg’s ongoing illness.
Greg has been diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, epithelioid type, a rare and aggressive cancer that often goes undetected. Thankfully, Greg’s diagnosis came just in time to qualify him for a highly specialized life-saving procedure.
The Procedure
Greg is scheduled to undergo CRS/HIPEC (Cytoreductive Surgery with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy), widely known in the surgical world as “the mother of all surgeries.” Surgery has been fast tracked leaving little time for preparation and planning- August 1st is the big day.
This complex procedure involves 12–18 hours of surgery, followed by:
• A few days in the ICU
• 10–14 days of inpatient hospital recovery
• An additional 2-week stay near the surgical team for post-discharge monitoring.
• A longer home-based recovery lasting 6 to 12 months
Though it’s a physically demanding process, CRS/HIPEC has a high success rate with excellent outcomes for eligible patients. We feel incredibly grateful that Greg is a candidate and is in the skilled hands of the UCSF surgical team!
What It Means for His Family
Since Greg’s diagnosis, he and his wife, Sarah, have already missed significant time from work. Coordinating appointments, labs, imaging, and logistics to meet the urgent timeline has left them unable to maintain a consistent work schedule.
Greg’s surgery will take place 3–4 hours from home. Sarah, along with their younger daughter, will need to remain near the hospital for at least 30 days during his critical recovery period. This makes working virtually impossible and adds immense financial pressure.
How Your Donations Will Help:
• Temporary housing near UCSF during recovery (4–6 weeks)
• Food, gas, tolls, and daily essentials while living away from home
• Travel expenses for his wife, daughter, and support team
• Medical co-pays and prescription costs
• Lost wages due to time off work
• Urgent bills like mortgage, car payments, phone, and insurance
• Unexpected expenses that may arise during recovery
