Support Greg: Disabled Navy Veteran in Need

Hello!
My name is Cindy, and I am the 'baby' sister of Greg.

Greg, through no fault of his own, is a Disabled United States Navy Veteran who has fallen on hard times. He would never ask for a handout or help financially, so he is not aware (yet) that I am even doing this 'GoFundMe' thing. If I am able to raise any money 100% of funds will go towards food, shelter, heating/electrical cost, needed car repair. He lives in his home in Pine City, MN all by himself. The family helps takes care of the cost for his yard upkeep and home repairs etc.

He is on a limited income (only SS $1800.00 a month). Even though he is better off than some who are truly struggling in these hard times, it doesn't mean he isn't struggling. After I pay his mortgage and utilities, he has about $250.00 left for the rest of the month (give or take depending on how high his electric bill is on any given month) for food, gas, prescriptions, etc.

We, as a family, help where and as much as we can. Trust me, I have gone through all avenues for help... the VA... can't get any monetary help, I was told because 'He didn't fight in a war!' to use the VA medical clinic is not feasible since he lives in Pine city he is not able to drive that far. I have gone to the county; he gets $38 a month on SNAP for food, THAT'S IT... the excuse... 'Because he has a house (even though that has a mortgage payment), that counts as an 'asset' and that is all he qualifies for.' He does qualify for Emergency heating assistance only for winter through the county, but it's a limited amount that doesn't get him through a full winter season here in Minnesota for propane heat. He does get help from Family Pathways in the way of - they deliver food from the food shelf for him. His mechanic (bless his heart) loaned him a car (that's limping on its last leg) since his had an electrical fire and nothing was left of it. The local county (Pine) churches and other local organizations have been a great help, but once you tap into them, there is only so much they can do yearly. He has exceeded that amount for 2025. He doesn't qualify for Medical Assistance (MA) or MnSure for healthcare coverage because they say 'his income is $100.00 too much for MA and he has a house (asset) so disqualifies him for free healthcare under MnSure!!' - How sad is that? So, he has to pay for Medicare, PLUS add on a medical part C/D plan for dental and prescription coverage - which he cannot afford.

He was struggling so much before but now with this government shutdown, we are desperate. It brings me to this point of doing the unthinkable... asking for any 'help!' The 'help' he did get from SNAP $38 and Emergency Heating Assistance has been delayed until further notice, and we are going into the cold winter months. There is simply nothing left for food, or propane to heat his house. He has no credit card debt... or loans except his mortgage. I am simply asking for help with things we all need...food, prescriptions, utilities and housing.

I even hate to ask for help - I would rather work several jobs to help him than ask for help for him. However, desperate times call for desperate measures. So, here is me asking for any help you can provide. It is so very greatly appreciated and would be such a blessing for him and our family. We have our faith and know God will get us through.

Thank you for your time and reading this far. If you are also struggling - you are in my prayers!

God bless you all
