On November 2nd, Greg Cameron suffered life-threatening injuries in a climbing accident in Eldorado State Park. Since that day, Greg has been fighting for his life, surrounded by family, friends, and an incredible medical team.
Greg has been receiving trauma ICU care at Denver Health from November 2nd through November 21st. He remains in the SICU, undergoing repeated procedures to manage infections, lung complications, and other critical issues.
When his medical team determines that no further surgical interventions are immediately needed, Greg will be transferred to PAM Health Specialty Hospital for long-term acute care. His length of stay there will depend largely on when he wakes up. If Greg regains enough responsiveness to participate in rehabilitation, the next step would be Craig Hospital, one of the world’s leading neurorehabilitation centers.
At this time, Greg is in a coma, and his neurological outlook remains uncertain.
Greg has been married to Elizabeth since 2003. He is a devoted father to two daughters and a stepdaughter, all of whom adore him.
He has been climbing for over 50 years, and the climbing community knows him as a steady partner, a brilliant storyteller, and someone who always gave more than he took. Greg is a geologist, a philosopher, and a lifelong learner. He is curious, funny, thoughtful, and deeply kind. His friends describe him as the person who shows up every time, without being asked.
Greg’s accident has created an overwhelming financial burden for his family. His care involves nearly three weeks in a trauma ICU, ongoing surgeries, infection management, a long-term stay at a specialty acute-care hospital, potential neurorehabilitation, an unknown duration of recovery, and possible future caregiving needs that cannot yet be predicted.
This fundraiser will be administered by Greg’s daughter, Taylor, who is helping manage his care and communication during this extremely difficult time. Funds will go toward medical expenses, rehabilitation, caregiving, and supporting Greg’s family as they navigate this uncertain and emotional journey.
Greg has spent his life giving love, humor, wisdom, and friendship to everyone around him. Now the community has a chance to support him and his family through the hardest challenge they have ever faced.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. Thank you for your love, support, and prayers for Greg.
