Hi everyone!
My name is Grecia. On July of this year, I received the news that there was some sort of lesion on my upper jaw. I was referred to an oral surgeon and after a biopsy, it was determined that I had a large and very aggressive odontogenic keratocyst (OKC cyst). This led to a tube being placed in my jaw to reduce the size of the cyst and ideally make it easier to remove the entire thing (as it has a high recurrence rate). This was done on 08/01. Since then, I've dealt with daily struggles with eating normally, half my face swelling up like a balloon for almost a week due to an infection, jaw pain and headaches from the jaw pain. A few weeks ago, I was cleared to see an endodontist because the cyst affected the strength and health of my top teeth.
In the last few weeks, I have met with my endodontist and oral surgeon and my medical bill is going to total almost $15,000.
I need 6 root canals because of this cyst.
I need a bone graft and some specialized treatment to ensure the cavity (hole basically) that is left behind by the cyst when it's removed, heals properly and there is cell regrowth.
And my current treatment is considered conservative! Other surgeons would remove my upper jaw to take care of the aggressive cyst and not only would that be MORE expensive but the recovery would be extensive.
I have medical insurance and dental insurance but it covers very little of this. And unfortunately, it's not something I can put off.
I know there's people that are worse off than I am and who have much more urgent needs. I'm doing this in the hopes of alleviating some of the burden on my family because this is causing a lot of stress and anxiety.
The payment is due in full on the day of the surgery which gives us two weeks. We've looked into different financing options and will take out a loan if we absolutely MUST but the rates for them are outrageous.
Anything helps. Truly. The more we can pay out of pocket, the less we'll have to borrow.
