In October, my sister Grecia noticed a lump in her neck that slowly grew into two lumps, and by December, she found a third. It was at that point she knew something was wrong and decided she needed to see a doctor. To her surprise, she found out that she did not have health insurance, even though she thought she was covered through her job in DPS. Grecia is a beloved member of the South community, working on the culture team and sponsoring the herbalism club. She spent most of December and January seeking coverage and has finally resolved that with DPS.
After getting health insurance, last month Grecia was diagnosed with thyroid cancer that has spread to her lymph nodes. To treat the cancer, she is getting surgery to remove her thyroid and the affected lymph nodes. She will have to miss at least a month of work and will reach the out-of-pocket maximum of her high deductible medical plan.
Anything to help cover some of the costs will assist in easing the financial burdens during this difficult time. Thank you for supporting Grecia and helping her focus on healing and recovery.
