This tiny fighter is Grayson McKinley. He was born at just 23 weeks gestation via emergency C-section. Mr. Grayson has lived his entire life in the NICU. He celebrated his actual birth due date with his tracheostomy surgery. This came after many, many, many procedures: X-rays, ultrasounds, labs, echos, hospital transfers, etc.
Now, this death-defying miracle boy is living in the NICU 3 HOURS AWAY FROM HIS MOM AND DAD. 3 hours. One way. His 2 older brothers have only met him ONCE.
Grayson is now nearing 6 months old, and it is projected that he will be living in the NICU for a bit still because of his complications. And even when he is able to go home, he will probably be going home with a decent amount of medical equipment and need many follow-ups from his specialist doctors.
Update!!
Mr. Grayson is fighting hard for his life friends. This little cutie is 6 months old now and has under gone multiple surgeries and procedures. Poor guys heart is getting better while his digestive system is getting worse. That, unfortunately, is just the deal in the NICU. That's why it is called an emotional rollercoaster!
Grayson is not out of the woods yet, as he still has many critical things that his care team are watching for. For sure, he has 1 more surgery at least. He is uncomfortable most of the time, and he is still in a level 4 NICU 3 HOURS AWAY FROM HIS FAMILY. Think of how much gas that is for just 1 trip to see your baby. But it's necessary that Grayson stay at the highest level facilities because of his multiple medical conditions.
Please consider giving what you can to this family so they may be able to spend more time together, in and (we are praying for ultimately) out of the NICU.
