We are Gray & Teresa Canan. In July 2025, I (Gray) experienced a severe diabetic episode that caused my blood sugar to spike above 700, leading to a seizure and stroke. I collapsed in our 13-year-old son’s bedroom and was med-flighted to Harris Downtown Hospital in Fort Worth, where I spent six days in a coma and two weeks in the ICU.
The stress of my uncertain medical condition triggered Teresa’s POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), sending her to Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville for several days. Unfortunately, just a week before these events, our insurance coverage was cancelled. Teresa and I have been foster parents at a group home for almost 30 years, but due to our health issues, we had to resign in September 2026. Finding a new place to live, paying utilities, and covering medical bills have wiped out our savings.
The ongoing stress has kept Teresa’s POTS triggered, making it impossible for her to work. In March 2026, I was able to start substituting for Stephenville schools, picking up as many days as I can. However, we still have rent, utilities, and medical costs that we need help with at this time. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated as we work to rebuild our lives and health. Any support means the world to us.
