Hi everyone,
I’m an independent rescuer and rely entirely on the help of my community and kind people to care for little furry babies who have nowhere else to go. This time, I’m asking for help to cover Grasshopper’s vet bills.
Grasshopper is a very special little girl who has had a much harder time thriving compared to her siblings. She was the last kitten I managed to trap, as she avoided every trap for days. When I finally caught her, it became clear why — she was the smallest of them all, the runt of the litter.
She came to me with what I initially thought was a simple URI. But I soon noticed she was drooling excessively, and when I checked her mouth, I was shocked to find a literal hole in her palate. This poor little girl had a severe mouth infection that was eating away at her palate and gums. Because she was so tiny, surgery wasn’t an option. Instead, she was placed on a long course of antibiotics until she could reach 3 lbs.
Grasshopper turned out to be a fighter. To my surprise, the hole slowly started shrinking — and after two weeks, it completely closed. Kittens can be incredibly resilient; it truly felt like a miracle.
She continued doing well and went to a foster home last week. The first couple of days were great, but then she began vomiting after meals and soon stopped eating altogether. After several days of supportive care at home with no improvement, I made the difficult decision to bring her to the emergency vet to rule out an intestinal blockage, panleukopenia, or a congenital issue.
Thankfully, her tests and X-rays came back relatively normal. She received injectable anti-nausea medication, fluids, and vitamins to help her feel more comfortable. Because her recovery was slow, she also needed a follow-up appointment with our primary vet for additional injections of the same medications.
Today, Grasshopper is finally feeling better. She’s no longer vomiting, her diarrhea is improving, and she has started eating wet and dry food again. Her vet bills are not something I was prepared for — but she is absolutely worth it.
Any support, whether through donations or sharing, means the world to us and helps me continue saving kittens like Grasshopper. Thank you for being part of this rescue journey! A
