Grant Drum Line
Imagine being 15 years old on a Drum Line that has been invited to perform at one of the most prestigious events in your city and showing up only to be reminded that you come from one of the most poverty stricken and crime infested areas of that city. That is what happened in 2011, when the Grant Drum line was invited to perform at the Jammies (a classical music event). Back then the Drum Line used safety pins to hold up the hems of their aged uniforms, and clothes hangers to hold together the drum harness.
The Drum Line was founded in 2009 as an extra curriculum program to give students the opportunity to tap into their musical nature while simultaneously avoiding getting into trouble. Since then, the program has grown, so too has the magnitude of exposure. Grant Drum Line has performed at numerous events nationwide and around the world (Washington D.C., New York, Japan, South Africa, London, and France).
Recently, the Drum Line has been invited to perform in Ireland at the 2026 New Year’s Eve Countdown followed by a New Year’s Day parade in Galway. This will be an amazing life changing opportunity for all the new drummers new and old. With each opportunity to perform come financial obstacles. While the Drum Line takes pride in keeping the program afloat, going to Ireland is far beyond its affordability. Being rooted in one of the lowest income neighborhoods in the nation does not provide the Drum Line with a luxurious budget or lavish donations that other programs may receive. To maintain, the Drum Line relies heavily on volunteers, donors, performances, and Grant Drum Line Music Association its parent company. With a calculated cost of $120,000.00 to cover purchases of new uniforms, travel for 28 people (Drummers, and Chaperones), by airplane, motor coach, and ferry boat, shipping instruments, and lodging expenses, The Drum Line needs your help to make this dream come to fruition. If you would like to support this once in a life time transformative experience, please donate.
