Grandmother Aama Bombo, one of the Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers

Buddhi Maya Lama, who is also known as Aama Bombo (Mother Shaman), was born in the remote village of Melong in the Eastern part of the Bagmati Zone, Nepal, 65 years ago. Her father was a renowned shaman in the Nepalese Tamang tradition. Aama became a shaman in spite of the Tamang tradition that women are not supposed to practice shamanism. In the early days, her father restricted her in every way from practicing shamanism. However, when her father died at the age of eighty, his spirits and other gods and spirits started visiting and teaching her to be a shaman, against the prevailing cultural values of Tamang society.

Today, Aama has achieved great renown in Nepal l and she stands alongside the other Grandmothers, spreading her message of universal peace, harmony and brotherhood.

Grandmother Aama says:
‘Everywhere I go, I pray in order to create a world without war and conflict. I would like see a world full of natural beauty in which all people have the same rights.

She used to treat around 100 patients every morning at her house in Boudhnath, near Kathmandu. Patients come to visit her from around the country, as well as from India and Tibet. She does not discriminate against those she heals, treating the poorest of the poor as well as the Royal Family of Nepal with equal dedication and respect.

Due to covid-19, there has been a significant increase in the cost of medication and transportation for her weekly dialysis and she has been challenging with her healing work as well.

Weekly Cost
Weekly Dialysis = 4000 Nepalese Rupee
Blood injection = 2500 Nepalese Rupee
7000 x 4 = 28000 Nepalese Rupee per month

Medication = 6000 Nepalese Rupee per month
Transportation = 1500 x 4= 6000 Nepalese Rupee per month

Total per month = 28000 + 6000 + 6000 = 40000 Nepalese Rupee per month ~ equivalent to appr slightly lesser than CAD$500 per month.

I am requesting for your support to assist Grandmother Aama Bombo with at least 2 years of her medical bills as a way to show our appreciation and honoring our Elder.
