My grandma fell in August and fractured her hip and wrist. After her hospital stay, she was sent to a rehab center in Mount Vernon. She has been there since then, working on being able to walk again, and getting up and going to the bathroom on her own. She can walk with her walker, and just needs a little more time to be able to get up and down on her own, and to be able to go to the bathroom by herself. Medicare only covers 100 days, and are essentially kicking her out on Dec 6th. The rehab center room she is in costs $490 a day out of pocket. She can go to the long term care unit for $279 a day. She doesn't have anything to cover this cost, as she relies on social security every month to pay her bills, and that's barely enough to do that. She still lives on the farm, and we are trying to do everything we can to help keep the farm that has been in the family name for over 100 years. If she can't pay for her stay, there is a possibility she could lose it. Right now we are still working on a plan, but she has agreed to let us try to raise the money to keep her in a facility for another 30 days while she continues to get stronger and work towards being able to go home again at 91 years old. Like most older people, she just wants to be home when she finally gets the call to go home. And so here we are, trying to do everything we can to try and make that possible for her. So at $279 a day, we are trying to raise $9000 to cover the cost of giving her another month to go home where hopefully she can stay. The last thing we want is for her to go home early for something else to happen and she falls again. She's helped so many people in her lifetime, and we want to do everything we can to make sure she is loved and supported through all of this. And that she doesn't have to worry about losing the farm. The place my grandpa was raised. And the place they raised their kids.
We were able to take her home for Thanksgiving. It was in doing so, that we realized she's still not where she needs to be to stay home. She needs help getting in and out of bed, along with help going to the bathroom. So we're hopefully that another month gets her closer to these goals. Every little bit helps, and thank you for reading this if you've made it this far.
