Just as I was settling into my graduate studies at Wayne State University after dealing with immigration and the aftermath of COVID-19, life threw me a curveball. Right after finishing my first semester exams, I ended up in the emergency room due to an illness that had been lingering for weeks. To my shock, the doctors informed me that I have a type of blood cancer: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). In an instant, my entire world turned upside down.

As an international graduate student from another country, I find myself facing this uphill battle with no family or financial support.
