My name is Lily and I am creating this fundraiser in behalf of my wonderful friend, Grace! She expressed to me that there are people who are asking how they can help her at this very challenging time.

If you are privileged to know Grace, you know she has a heart as big as the ocean. If anyone needs help, she will rearrange her schedule to make it work so she could be there to help them-be it cooking, cleaning, comforting, packing, laundry, etc and simply, just being there for them. I know this because I am one of those that have been privileged to know such a beautiful person.

I met Grace over 10 years ago and we have been very close since then. She has spent many Thanksgiving holidays at our home, helping me make dinner. She is a friend you can count on through thick and thin. And even when life has not been always kind to her, she did not allow it to destroy the beautiful person that she is.

Grace has been working hard to support her family while taking classes towards her goal of becoming a nurse someday. She is an excellent student and I can already envision her as a wonderful nurse, after all, she cares about people and is always willing to help them.

However, beginning of this week, Grace has not been feeling well. She called me and normally, we would talk for a long time but this time, she had to get off so she could rest; she told me she wasn’t feeling very well. Today, Grace took the last boat to the mainland (she lives in Vinalhaven Island) to get to the hospital immediately because her gallbladder was infected. She’s had a fever and pain since last Monday and she could not keep food down. Tonight, the doctor and surgeon informed her that aside from her gallbladder issue, they also found a tumor behind her kidney that is the size of a fist. She will be transferred to Maine Medical Center tomorrow for surgery.

Grace doesn’t have insurance and she will need as much help as she can with her hospital bills while she’s out of work. She also supporting her teenage son in the Philippines who is attending school there.

While I know financial help is appreciated in behalf of Grace, we also covet your prayers for she desperately need it!
