It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Graca Mitchell Ouma on January 20th, 2025. Graca came to the United States as an international scholar in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Arizona State University. After completing her degree, she moved to Texas and, in 2023, relocated to Phoenix with her husband, Michael Wairungi, as she was preparing to pursue her master’s degree.

On the morning of January 20th, Michael left for work while Graca was still resting. When he returned home, he found her in the same position, having passed away unexpectedly. Her sudden loss has left her family, friends, and community heartbroken.

Graca’s family in Kenya has expressed their wish to have her body brought back home for burial. This GoFundMe campaign has been created to help cover the costs of transporting Graca to Kenya and ensuring she receives a dignified farewell.
