Hello friends, family and community. My heart is heavy as I write this. I'm sure that many of you may know my Uncle Gordie; if not, I'd like to tell you a bit more about the amazing man he is.
Gord and his wife Sherry raised their family and lived in Fraser Lake for many years. They are now residing in Prince George. He is well known in both communities and is easily recognizable with his warm smile and big belly laugh.
He spent the majority of his career working at Endako Mines, as well as for the B.C. Ambulance Service in Fraser Lake. In his spare time there, he loved to be with his family, tinker in his workshop and spent countless hours volunteering as a coach, reff and member of the FL Fire Department. He has always been ready, willing and able to help anyone in need; anytime.
In 2014, things took a sudden turn when he suffered a life altering stroke. Despight this setback, he pushed hard through physiotherapy without complaint and was able to regain his independence. He found work as soon as he could and continued to provide for his family.
On May 22, 2025 life as the Friesen's knew it was shattered again. Gord recieved a very unexpected diagnoses of Cancer, know as Metastatic Merkel Cell Carcinoma. This type of cancer is excruciatingly painful and is very agressive. There is no known cure. He is currently undergoing immunotherapy, and radiation in attempt to slow it's progression. He is also making daily trips to the hospital for wound care dressing changes.
The Cancer Society has taken care of some of the costs associated with his treatment, however; there are still many expenses mounting. The pain medication that he relies on right now is not fully covered and is very expensive. On top of that are their day to day expenses and bills, which have become stressful to manage with the loss of income.
Gord and Sherry would honestly be the last couple in the world to ask for help, but right now they could really use some.
Please keep them, their children and their grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers.
Any support would be so appreciated and will help greatly to alleviate the financial burden that this has caused, allowing them to focus more on their time together.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this.
