That's the heartbreaking reality for Gustavo, affectionately known as Goose, a sweet 9-year-old American Bulldog. After eight years of unwavering loyalty and love with his family, he found himself in desperate need of a new home. His family was moving to Europe, where bully breeds like Goose are sadly discriminated against, and even illegal in some places. They simply couldn't take him with them. Goose, a gentle soul originally rescued from a Los Angeles shelter, arrived with more than just a broken heart; he came with a host of medical challenges. Three years ago, he underwent a TPLO surgery, which should have given him a new lease on life. But, unfortunately his body has been silently fighting a battle, rejecting the plates and screws in his leg, causing constant discomfort and a weeping wound. We welcomed Goose into our family just this past Saturday, June 14th, and he has fit in so well! He's incredibly smart, very sweet, and so loving. He's effortlessly joined our rescue crew: Angus, our also nine-year-old American Bulldog rescue; Dallas, our 15-year-old Chihuahua pug rescue; and Dinky, our 14-year-old Pitbull Lab mix rescue. After an urgent visit to our vet today, the X-rays confirmed our fears: his body is indeed rejecting the hardware, and it needs to come out. This isn't a complex procedure, but it's crucial. Removing these irritants will alleviate his pain and give him the chance to enjoy many more years of comfortable, happy life. His previous family, despite their difficult circumstances, contributed a small amount towards his initial care, and we are so grateful. We are committed to providing Goose with a loving home and taking care of him for the rest of his life.
