Hey everyone, it’s Joey, one of the owners of Good Time Cafe, an almost 4-year-old coffee shop and now a well known community hub in Long Beach! The space we’re in on Coronado Ave has been a coffee shop since 2017. In 2019, I started in this space as a barista and over the course of a few years I went from barista to line cook, to manager to now co-owner of Good Time. In spring of 2022 we took over the existing cafe space and where I first started at our Coronado location. At the time it shared a roof with a plant store that was owned by my now business partners, Ben and Bill. In late fall of 2022 we decided to slowly phase out the plants to create more seating for our customers. Once the plants left the city decided to make our change of ownership into a change of use forcing us to restart the whole process over again. The city of Long Beach said to be in compliance we needed to proceed with construction and remodeling with costs totaling over $250,000. We've been in the process of applying for loans so we can start the construction so we can be in compliance, so we can stay open. Now as we were waiting for the loans to clear, we were hit with a cease & desist for operating out of compliance. These fines started at $100 the first day, the next day was $200, and now $500 a day and then they started to fine us daily for not having an entertainment permit for a community open mic night. Our loan finally cleared and we just started construction yesterday. So, we are asking for your help to pay off the daily fines we’ve received from the city of Long Beach, and any financial support so we can continue to support our staff as we navigate being closed on and off for construction throughout the next handful of weeks. Our main goal is to ensure our staff is supported and to pay off the fines. If we accumulate more than our goal the extra money would go towards this insane loan.

I also just want to say thank you to everyone for showing up and making Good Time what it is today. My goal in this life has always be to give and advocate for the community and I’ve found way to do that through this space, so thank you for allowing us to serve you all for the last 4 years.
