Support Glowing Fest: Healing Through Art and Music
Tax deductible
Hello my name is Ryan Oslance and I witnessed my beloved truly magical hometown of the last 11 years Marshall NC get annihilated by Hurricane Helene and many of my best friends lost their homes, art studios, businesses and almost everything they owned. It was an absolutely brutal and traumatic experience for us all here and everyone in the whole impact radius of the storm. Trying to salvage what we could from the wreckage of our spaces for the weeks after the storm entirely on our own was extremely draining, taxing, dangerous and depleting on so many levels. The impacts and effects of the storm are still strongly present and the recovery has been slow and challenging for many. Having lived and been living in this experience with so many dear loved ones it became clear I wanted to rally to make something special happen that would support, uplift, heal and connect as many people as I could that have been shook to their core by this earth shattering event. So I started dreaming and scheming the idea for Glowing Fest in the fall after the storm and have been working on it ever since. I have orchestrated a truly inspiring array of artists, musicians, healers, workshop facilitators and people to share their gifts and talents for this event. With a strong core of them coming from Western North Carolina and others from areas in South Carolina impacted by the hurricane and more from all over elsewhere. I am positive this experience will bring so much joy, strength, visibility, connection, empowerment and vitality to these communities that are hungry for it. I’m in need of raising money to cover some of the basic costs of running the event like the insurance, stages, sound equipment, generators, port a potty’s, travel expenses, artist compensation and hopefully enough to cover food costs to feed the artists and musicians. Ideally we can raise enough money to also be able to pay all of the performers and people involved in bringing this dream to life. Any help spreading the word would be so appreciated. And we would happily accept food, beverage or product donations to share with everyone as well. The intimate nature-based music, arts, skill sharing & art making festival Glowing Fest will be held on May 8th through 11th at Woodlands Nature Reserve in Charleston, SC. A gorgeous 6,000 acre nature reserve that will serve as a container for all of the magic to take place and allow us to reset and restore in nature. Emotional and artistic expression in the form of an after care gathering is what Glowing Fest brings to the healing process. Donations from this Gofundme are to allow people who see the importance of this part of the recovery process to contribute what they can in addition to or in lieu of attending. Contributions are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, 501(c)(3) non-profit Soul and Soil Project.
There was completely no funds at my disposal to start or create this event, it was entirely sprouted from the ground up as my business of running a campground on my land was shut down after the storm and we just emerged from winter.
It is life giving for artists to have a meaningful space and audience to share their work with and be seen. Everyone needs and deserves to be witnessed, feel understood and be celebrated for the gifts they have. I feel it is important to help bring people out of their every day lives and lead them into a utopian alternative reality that we all create together and can live in for a few days. Hence the desire to have it be more of a retreat and reprieve from WNC by keeping it fairly close by but far enough away to have it be a bit of an adventure and escape. When people feel deeply inspired, connected with community, loved and celebrated I think that’s where the most potent healing, life force and rebirth comes from. That’s the goal and you can help us get there
