Hi, my name is Gloria Springfield, and I am creating this fundraiser to help with the financial costs I will incur over a time span of 4 to 6 months while going through the process of getting a double lung transplant.
In early March of 2020 I was hospitalized with Covid-19 and had to be intubated. By some miracle I survived and for the last 5 years I have struggled with lung issues, and my health has deteriorated tremendously.
After consulting with doctors at Emory Hospital, I was told that a double lung transplant is my best chance at a longer, healthier life. It has been a very scary and emotional journey getting to this point, but I have faith that I keep having the strength to keep fighting.
After talking to the Emory Transplant Financial Coordinator, even though my insurance will help with some of the medical costs, there are so many expenses that fall on me to cover—travel, temporary housing near the transplant center, food, medications, and any other recovery costs that my daughter who will be my 24/7 caregiver and I will come across in the 4 to 6 months I will be required to stay in the transplant transition home as I go to physical therapy and checkups to make sure the lungs are functioning correctly. Emory has since decided to transfer my case to Vanderbilt Hospital.
We are extremely grateful for all donations, shares and prayers that can help us ease the financial burden through this incredibly stressful time. Thank you for helping me along this journey to get new lungs and a second chance at life.
