This summer a group from Trinity Episcopal Church will be traveling to Mityana Uganda to visit Glenburnie Primary School. We will visit a secluded school/orphanage that houses close to 150 children. The school receives very little funding for its mission and its treacherous location makes it challenging to access. My church has provided financial assistance over the last five years and we continue to visit annually. With our support they have been able to install a privacy fence, a playground, improve the outdoor wood fire kitchen and complete some ground maintenance. I am not aware of any other churches or programs supporting Glenburnie Primary School.

The children spend their entire childhood at the orphanage. They work, learn, and play, but not like our children in America. Ranging from preschool to grade 5, the children walk many miles each day, sometimes barefoot, to reach the watering hole to collect water for their crops and for washing their clothes.

Children’s clothing and any personal belongings are very limited and typically stored in a single -or sometimes two - shoeboxes. Meals are twice a day and consist of a slice of bread and something that looks like a cup of grits.

Teachers hand-write lessons for the children each day because there are no notebooks or photocopiers. The children appear happy and are loved, but badly need our financial support to help them make their lives even a bit more comfortable. Currently, $450 covers the cost of tuition, housing and food for one child for one year.

I’m hoping to collect enough donations to cover supplies that will directly benefit these children and their teachers. I will be traveling to Uganda in June. I hope you will support me and my team to provide faith and love on our journey. Thank you for your support.
