Glen and Dolores, my parents, are facing an incredibly tough time. Just two days ago, my mom underwent brain surgery, and while the issue that could have caused a stroke or aneurysm has been fixed, her eyes still need time to heal. Her follow-up appointments are 2.5 hours away, making travel a challenge. Meanwhile, my dad is battling stage 4 cancer, driving 60 miles one way every day for radiation treatments over the next seven weeks. He will continue chemo and immunotherapy for possibly two years or longer. Both are retired and living on a fixed income, so the costs of gas, meals, hotels, and medical bills are quickly adding up.
