Hey friends!
Our names are Tut Kailech and Mitchell Peppmuller. We have been running a charitable effort called Give4Good since the winter of 2020. In our professions, Mitchell has been serving as a Broker Dealer Specialist at UBT for over 7 years, and Tut has been working as a Community Builder at NeighborWorks Lincoln for over 3 years.
Our first initiative was a coat drive through which we collected over 450 clothing items for kids in school and others in the Lincoln community who were in need of winter clothing. A couple of years ago, we started a Back to School Drive which was successful, and now we want to do it again. We aim to help teachers and students prepare for the school year by supplying them with the necessary items for a safe and productive year.
WHY: The NRF (National Retail Federation) estimates that, on average, households will spend over $141.62 on standard classroom supplies. Studies have shown that starting the school year with the necessary school supplies promotes learning, boosts self-esteem, and helps keep kids in school (LINK TO STUDY ).
Unfortunately, as states have cut school spending, schools are providing less, teachers are having to pay out of pocket and parents are being asked to purchase even more school supplies for their children. Lower-income kids have many hurdles to overcome. Working hard and staying in school offer a glimmer of hope for a better future. But staying in school is difficult if you don't have the right supplies. Kids may already feel out of place, and showing up without the proper supplies can make them feel worse and like they just don't have what it takes to succeed.
When asked about the impact that free school supplies have on students, educators reported the following:
95%: Access to free supplies is critical to creating a more equal learning environment for students
91%: Increase in preparedness
83%: Significant increase in participation
78%: Significant increase in student self-esteem
