Hi, my name is Giulia, I’m 26 years old and I live in Nottingham.

Until recently I was living a normal, busy life full of plans and dreams for my future. That changed suddenly when I was diagnosed with pineoblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain tumour. I underwent a 9-hour craniotomy to remove as much of the tumour as possible, followed by further procedures including a brain shunt. I am now preparing for radiotherapy and ongoing oncology treatment.

The surgery saved my life, but it has also changed it in ways I never imagined. My hearing and vision have been affected, simple daily tasks have become difficult, and for now I am unable to work while I focus on healing. I am learning to be patient with my body, to celebrate small improvements, and to hold onto hope even on the hard days.

I am raising funds to help with:

• Specialist consultations and second medical opinions

• Travel to hospitals and treatment centres

• Rehabilitation and support for hearing and vision recovery

• Daily living costs while I cannot work

• Any additional care I may need during radiotherapy

Asking for help has never been easy for me. I have always been independent and the one who looks after others. But this journey has taught me that strength also means allowing people to stand beside you. I am surrounded by an incredible family and friends, and their love keeps me going.

I still believe deeply in my future. I believe I will heal, laugh freely again, work again, and one day look back on this chapter as the hardest battle I ever won. Until then, I am taking one step at a time.

TRADUZIONE ITALIANO: Ciao, mi chiamo Giulia, ho 26 anni e vivo a Nottingham.

Fino a poco tempo fa vivevo una vita normale e frenetica, piena di progetti e sogni per il futuro. Tutto è cambiato improvvisamente quando mi è stato diagnosticato un pineoblastoma, un tumore cerebrale raro e aggressivo. Ho subito una craniotomia di 9 ore per rimuovere la maggior parte possibile del tumore, seguita da ulteriori procedure, tra cui uno shunt cerebrale. Ora mi sto preparando per la radioterapia e le cure oncologiche in corso.

L'intervento mi ha salvato la vita, ma l'ha anche cambiata in modi che non avrei mai immaginato. Il mio udito e la mia vista sono stati compromessi, le semplici attività quotidiane sono diventate difficili e per ora non sono in grado di lavorare mentre mi concentro sulla guarigione. Sto imparando ad essere paziente con il mio corpo, ad apprezzare i piccoli miglioramenti e ad aggrapparmi alla speranza anche nei giorni difficili.

Sto raccogliendo fondi per:

• Consulti specialistici e secondi pareri medici

• Viaggi verso ospedali e centri di cura

• Riabilitazione e supporto per il recupero dell'udito e della vista

• Spese di sostentamento quotidiano mentre non posso lavorare

• Qualsiasi assistenza aggiuntiva di cui potrei aver bisogno durante la radioterapia

Chiedere aiuto non è mai stato facile per me. Sono sempre stata indipendente e mi prendo cura degli altri. Ma questo percorso mi ha insegnato che la forza significa anche permettere agli altri di starmi accanto. Sono circondata da una famiglia e da amici incredibili, e il loro amore mi spinge ad andare avanti.

Credo ancora profondamente nel mio futuro. Credo che guarirò, tornerò a ridere liberamente, tornerò a lavorare e un giorno ricorderò questo capitolo come la battaglia più dura che abbia mai vinto. Fino ad allora, farò un passo alla volta.
