To our friends and family- Gitmo, Ross and I are in need of some dire help. This past Monday, Sept 29th, we had to admit our sweet girl to IndyVet hospital due to critical anemia. We discovered that she had developed an Autoimmune Disease where her immune system started attacking her platelets, causing them to plummet, preventing her from clotting, and thus causing her to bleed to the point of critical condition. After the vet saw her numbers, they were shocked that she was even able to walk - little do they know Miss G has so much willpower that even on the way to the hospital, she hung her head out the window for a few minutes to catch a breeze and some smells. In just a few days, she has had to receive 2 blood transfusions. Luckily, the amazing doctors at IndyVet have identified where she is bleeding (her GI tract), and are working to address this, in addition to providing her multiple kinds of therapies that have aided in her recovery so far. She is still in the hospital, but everyone has an optimistic outlook given that she has been overall improving - the main battle is getting her GI to stop bleeding so her platelets can really work to rebuild themselves and for the medicine to have time to work in her body. At this point, our medical bills have been quoted at $12,000 on the high end, not to mention the ongoing medications and blood tests awaiting us in the near future. We have already deposited $8,500 through a line of credit but are unable to borrow any more money. Ross is currently in the late stages of being hired on at the Green Bay Police Department as a future Police Officer, but when he gets the position, they will not be able to start him until January. This puts us at an extreme financial strain and we were encouraged by others to start this Go Fund Me as we know how many people love and care for not only Ross and I, but Gitmo. She has travelled to and camped in over 35 states, has bonded with hundreds of people in her 6 years of life, and she has gotten Ross and I through some very challenging times in our lives post Marine Corps. We owe her so much. Some would say she is just a dog, but most who know her would agree that she is a very special soul.
