Support Gisela Through Recovery After Double Mastectomy
Thursday, Gee took an incredibly brave step in protecting her future — she underwent a double mastectomy after a whirlwind year of unexpected medical news.
What began as a routine mammogram at work — thankfully offered through an on-site screening bus — quickly turned into a series of follow-up appointments. Doctors discovered something concerning in her left breast, leading to detailed imaging and a biopsy. The results revealed extremely dense, precancerous tissue that doctors strongly recommended removing.
Because more than half of one breast would have needed to be removed, and after many emotional conversations with her wife and loved ones, she made the difficult but courageous decision to remove both breasts. This all unfolded within just 12 months — a timeline that understandably felt scary and overwhelming.
While her breast cancer specialist explained that it wasn’t an emergency, it was an urgent situation — and she chose to face it head-on before it could become something worse.
During surgery, doctors also removed a lymph node that is currently being tested. We are all hopeful for good news when those results come back next week, as everything so far has been classified as precancerous.
Recovery won’t be easy. She has a long road ahead filled with healing, follow-up care, and an additional surgery planned once she has recovered from this one. The physical and emotional toll is significant, and this is where our community can step in to help.
If you know Gee, you know her strength, kindness, and resilience. Let’s surround her with the same support she has always given to others.
Every donation — big or small — will help ease the burden during recovery by assisting with medical costs, daily expenses, and giving her the space to focus on healing.
Thank you for lifting her up during this challenging time.
