Help Gio avoid eviction

Donation protected
Dear friends,

Getting knocked down in life can happen in a second, but getting back up on your feet can take a long time, especially when you're older. A few months ago, I reached out to ask for your help for my friend Gio and her mom, so they could avoid homelessness. Gratefully, your support kept them afloat in the midst of a hard situation 5 years in the making. Between the pandemic, a dementia diagnosis, a squatter refusing to pay rent that led to the sale of their family home, and the loss of their only income, the road back to normalcy is taking a lot longer than Gio hoped.

On the bright side, Gio was able to place her mother in assisted living about a month ago, where she is getting the full-time care she needs and deserves. On the flip side, Gio has been looking for steady work for several months now, but being a woman in her 50s, out of the workforce for many years, in this crazy economy, and with thousands of people being laid off in the Washington, DC area, things are moving very slowly. Gio has reached out to every agency that could possibly help with emergency rental assistance, but they are out of funds and not slated to receive more any time soon from the current administration. In short, the resources are not there.

I am reaching out again today to humbly ask for your help to keep her afloat for a few months while she finds work. If you can find it in your heart to give and share this story with others in your network, I would be eternally grateful. No one wants to be in a situation where they have to ask for money, but I'm hoping that together, we can help her get through these hard times and give her hope for a better future.

And in case someone has a lead or is interested, Gio is a genealogist. If you have been wanting to do a family research project, pay her to work for you. Likewise, if you have editing or translation needs, she provides those services as well.

Please give what you can and if you can, give recurrently while the fundraiser is open. On behalf of myself and my dear friend, thanks in advance for your support and understanding.
