On November 9, 2019, our lives would forever change. Gino was lying in bed and suffered an AVM (artery vascular malfunction) in the brain, which caused a massive stroke. After searching for hospitals in the Chicagoland area from the ambulance, most hospitals were on bypass, not admitting any more stroke victims. UIC admitted Gino, and the medical team performed emergency brain surgery that lasted for over three hours. Another surgery would be performed, taking another three hours. On January 12, 2020, a third surgery took place that lasted over 12 hours. Throughout this whole ordeal, and with financial assistance from my family (Bozeman-Jackson) and some of our wonderful friends, we have been able to maintain and hang on this long. We never lost faith and knew God was and is still by our side.

To say that this ordeal has been nothing short of taking a toll on us is an understatement. From medical bills, fees, supplies, and therapy, this has set us back astronomically. Gino will need to continue his therapy and purchase a new brace to help him try to regain use of his left side.

God has turned our test into a testimony by the much progress Gino has made, but it’s still a long process ahead for both of us.
