Ginevra Liptan, M.D., is a Tufts University educated, board-certified internal medicine physician trained in functional medicine, a holistic approach that integrates both Western and alternative therapies. After developing fibromyalgia when she was a medical student, Dr. Liptan spent years using herself as a “guinea pig” to discover effective treatments. She has since refined that hard‑won knowledge by caring for thousands of patients.
She is the author of two widely respected books, The FibroManual: A Complete Fibromyalgia Treatment Guide for You and Your Doctor and The Fibro Food Formula, which together have helped people with fibromyalgia around the world.
Behind the scenes, however, Ginevra has carried a heavy financial burden for many years. Long before fibromyalgia was widely recognized or fairly reimbursed by the U.S. healthcare system, she devoted her career to treating and advocating for patients with this condition. Insurance often did not cover the time, testing, and innovative approaches her patients needed, so she often prioritized their care over income. On top of that, she used much of her own money to fund research and clinical innovation in fibromyalgia — work that advanced the field, but left her with far fewer financial resources than people might expect from a physician and bestselling author.
Recently, Ginevra underwent emergency surgery for a high‑grade malignant brain tumor and is now legally blind. Everything happened so quickly that our family is still reeling. The changes we must now make to daily life are daunting. Ginevra needs ongoing assistance and can no longer safely get around on her own. The costs of specialized care, adaptive equipment, and lost income are overwhelming, especially given the financial sacrifices she has already made throughout her career.
With the precious time she has left, her greatest wish is to be with her son, Kai, and to finish documenting her invaluable and unique lifetime of work on understanding Fibromyalgia from a scientific perspective.
