Help Gil get her new leg!
After years and years of multiple surgeries on her right knee due to infection amputation was the only option and the insurance is denying the prosthetic as not medically necessary! Help Gil get the new leg she deserves.
Gil has always been active women who loves to hike and take care of the many special needs animals her and her husband Jeff have taken in over the years. Four years ago, Gil had her left knee replaced and it went wonderfully. The right knee also needed to be done, but here is where things started to go downhill. Gil also has Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis, with her immune system already compromised an infection in the right knee led to 14 more surgeries and thousands of miles traveled from Terre Haute IN to Indianapolis over the last 4 years.
Once one would look like it was cleared up, another infection came about, some so bad that they landed her in the hospital on heavy antibiotics that almost shut down her kidneys, while other infections required her to have all the prosthetics taken out and a steel rod put in where Gil could no longer bend her leg and caused extreme pain. Gil had come to terms with the fact that the only way this would stop, and she could regain her qualify of life would be to have an amputation, but she was holding off giving the doctors an opportunity to make things right. It was August they found she had E. coli in her leg and she said enough was enough her body could no longer take the antibiotics and all the let downs of hoping maybe this is the time it will be gone, and she could hike again. Gil made the hard decision to go forward with the amputation and never thought there would be a question or a delay in having her prosthetic. Gil and Jeff celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in December and had hoped to have all of this behind them so they could celebrate properly. Please consider donating to get Gil her quality of life back!
