My mother has always been a core part of our family as well as our community. As a car seat safety inspector for many years, my mother has made sure that our community was well taken care of and provided for in a way that I don't think many people think about or acknowledge. She has always been someone who gave first and foremost to those around her, always willing to help in whatever capacity she can, whether it's from just being someone who can listen to your problems or giving you a warm home cooked meal. So it makes it even more painful when we found out that she's now battling stage 3 colon cancer. There is no question that Gilma Arguello, my mother, is a strong woman who I know without a shadow of doubt she can fight this disease. But to adequately do so, she needs to be able to afford her chemotherapy treatment, and so we're asking our community to help out wherever they can. Whether it's a few dollars or sharing it around, it would mean the world for us.

Mi madre siempre ha sido una parte fundamental de nuestra familia y de nuestra comunidad. Como Promotora de Salud e Instructora de Seguridad del Niño Pasajero durante muchos años, mi madre se ha asegurado de que nuestra comunidad estuviera bien cuidada y provista de una manera que creo que mucha gente no piensa ni reconoce. Siempre ha sido una persona que se entrega ante todo a quienes la rodeaban, siempre dispuesta a ayudar en todo lo que pueda, ya sea escuchando tus problemas o preparándote una comida casera caliente. Por eso, fue aún más doloroso descubrir que ahora lucha contra un cáncer de colon en etapa 3. No hay duda de que Gilma Argüello, mi madre, es una mujer fuerte y sé sin lugar a dudas que puede luchar contra esta enfermedad. Pero para hacerlo adecuadamente, necesita poder costear su tratamiento de quimioterapia y otros gastos que conlleva el mismo, por lo que pedimos a nuestra comunidad, conocidos, amigos y familiares que colaboren en lo que puedan.Ya sean unos cuantos dólares o compartirlo, significaría mucho para nosotros.
