Support Gilbert's Fight Against Cancer

Hi, my name is Melanie Trueworthy. I am starting this GoFundMe for my brother, Gilbert Bretado. Gil started 2024 off by needing open heart surgery as well as needing a cyst in his pancreas drained. The open heart surgery was performed in February 2024. It was successful, and his recovery went well.

Then came the news on his pancreas. Not only was it a tumor and not a cyst, but it was also cancerous. The tumor was removed in June along with 80% of his pancreas, 20 lymph nodes, and his spleen. It has already been a difficult road. He is now scheduled to start chemo in 3 weeks, once he does a little more healing from his open abdominal surgery. The chemo will consist of 4 medications followed by radiation. In total, it will be about 8 months of treatment.

We are asking for any help with covering medical expenses and some living expenses as well. Our goal is to raise $2,000 a month for the 8 months that he will be going through treatment. My brother is a wonderful person who always helps my parents and others. He is generous and thoughtful. We would love to take the financial burden from him so that he can focus on his treatment and recovery. He is only 43 years old. This has been shocking to say the least. Through it all, Gil has done everything asked of him from the doctors and nurses. He is dedicated to his health and recovery.
