Hello, my name is Patricia and I’m raising funds for my mom’s dog, Gigi.
Gigi is a white Maltese who will be turning 8 years old in May. She’s always been active and a joyful little dog. But more than anything, she’s my mom’s constant companion. Since my mom retired and living alone, Gigi has been her emotional support, her daily routine and source of comfort. My mom always says “Gigi is my life “.
One day my mom called me and told me that Gigi was not acting like herself. She was shaking, panting heavily and kept isolating herself in the bathroom to lie on the mat. She refused to eat, was extremely sluggish and seemed to be in pain.
When i arrived to pick up my mom, I saw how distressed Gigi was. She would pant and shake nonstop, and would scream when we tried to carry her. Instead of coming to us like she usually does, she kept on running away to hide under the table or the bed. We brought her to the vet after throwing up multiple times. They ran bloodwork and took X-rays. Her tests showed several abnormalities and signs of infection in her bloodwork. There’s a painful abscess in her gums that requires major dental work because the infection could spread. An enlarged liver showed in the X-ray , which the vet said needs to see a specialist. Gigi had severe loss of appetite where we have to syringe feed her because she has lost so much weight and is very, very weak. The combination of infection, dental disease and liver concerns made her decline quickly. After paying for the bloodwork and the and the x-ray the vet told us that to see the specialist and to get a clear picture of the treatment needed requesting between $2000-$2500 upfront . My mother is an elderly woman on a fixed income, and even with our help can’t afford this amount of money.
