Support Gigi's (Grace) Study Abroad in Spain

Hello, my name is Gigi (Grace), and I am thrilled to share my excitement about participating in the BSU-in study abroad program. This unique opportunity offers an immersive educational experience in the culturally rich city of Alcalá de Henares, Spain. Located just 40 minutes from Madrid, Alcalá de Henares will serve as the vibrant backdrop for my studies, thanks to a partnership with the Instituto Franklin at the Universidad de Alcalá. This collaboration ensures a comfortable and culturally enriching environment, perfect for academic and personal growth.

I will be taking Ball State classes taught by Ball State faculty. This program does NOT cost extra! Students who can afford to attend BSU on campus in Muncie can afford to BSU-in! Plus, since it's BSU courses, it's just about and even cheaper than a semester here at Ball State!

Rather than a dorm, I chose to stay with a Spanish family. Host families are thoroughly vetted, with home visits, criminal background checks, and references. Homestay is strongly encouraged by Franklin Institute; there is a significant advantage in language and cultural learning, plus the home-cooked meals.

This program includes several outings and activities, including excursions to Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia.

As a nursing student, this would be the best time and only semester I would be able to take an opportunity like this, before I start nursing school in the Fall of 2025.

Encountering people with different cultures will be enlightening on how to better care for those who are different than me. Additionally, as the Hispanic population grows in the U.S., learning Spanish will enable me to better care for our larger Hispanic and Spanish-speaking population.

This trip will further my love for culture. I hope it will grow my passion for international travel and allow the Lord to open doors for international work. The potential long-term benefits include new language skills, character development, and discovering new interests.
