As a mother, your children are your reason for existing. There is no job or task that comes before motherhood. At the age of 21, and the youngest of my three boys, my son has been presented with a huge obstacle; surviving cancer. I am asking you to help save my son’s life.
GianCarlo was officially diagnosed with osteosarcoma on June 1st of 2018. We were explained that it was a cancer that begins in the bones. While it is treatable, we were told, it remains one of the most rare and difficult-to-treat cancers. We are only in the beginning stages of this battle. He has been categorized as stage 2B and the tumor has thus far managed to stay in the lower extremity of his left femur, just above his knee. The tumor has not metastasized and we hope that all of our efforts mean it won’t later spread.
I am reaching out to ask for your help. Please consider a donation of any size to help my son cover current and future medical expenses, along with basic living expenses. Your donation will go directly to him so that he is able to combat costs, and focus on the most important thing – getting better.
Giancarlo is currently beginning his fourth and final year of undergraduate study at the University of California, Merced studying Biomedical Engineering. More than just a student, he is a contributing academic who strives to find breakthroughs in the field of medicine in hopes of advancing humankind.
In conjunction with lifestyle changes, we have chemotherapy sessions to fight through. Various blood tests and treatments have taken place for GianCarlo’s leg-salvaging surgery in December. Due to the daily chemotherapy trips located two hours away, as well as the countless chemotherapy side effects and the rehab with his new knee and femur prosthesis, GianCarlo has been struggling to continue managing his bills even with the financial support from loved ones.
Our spirits remain high, and GianCarlo’s resiliency shines through even on the worst of days. He has not shown anger or sadness and I know he is keeping strong for me, among everything. We as a family keep strong for him and for each other. Through this life altering time, GianCarlo has continued with his research as a biomedical engineering student and continues to focus on his last year of undergraduate school.
I’m a single mother and I make a living as a hair stylist. I work as many days as I can afford to be away from GianCarlo, but it is not enough to cover all of the expenses. I’ve begun this campaign to help relieve some of the financial pressures we are facing due to the rapidly growing medical and lifestyle costs.
I want, more than anything, for my son to be able to focus his energies on being well and pursuing his last year of college.
Please help my son continue to have a bright outlook and live a long fulfilled life. Your support and kindness will contribute to the successful fight of a loving and inspirational young man.
On behalf of GianCarlo and my family, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your time.
We hope that you will join us in GianCarlo’s fight and share his story.
