- In August 2024, my brother-in-law Gerald Keith Neal took a job in Rawlins, WY. He became very sick after 3 weeks. He went to a local hospital and was tested for COVID; it was negative. He then contacted his wife, Roxann Royer Neal, and asked her to fly up and drive him back home to Louisiana. She arrived on 9/21/24. Immediately, she realized he was very ill. He was then transported by ambulance to the local hospital in Rawlins. His lungs were completely filled with fluid. He was intubated and transferred to a larger hospital by helicopter in Casper, WY. After arriving there, he was diagnosed with multiple organ failure. His kidneys, heart, and lungs all began to shut down, and he was diagnosed with MRSA. They discovered that the leads in his pacemaker were infected The Casper, WY hospital didn't have access to a physician capable of removing the pacemaker. He was once again flown by helicopter to a larger hospital in Greeley, CO. After arriving there on 09/24/24, his pacemaker was immediately removed. He was comatose and intubated for over a week in ICU. Since arriving in Greeley, he has continued to improve. He was moved from ICU to PCU on 9/27/24. His body is very swollen, and he is unable to do anything for himself. The MRSA continues to be positive on his blood cultures. On 10/4/24, a secondary infection at the pacemaker removal site was discovered. Overall, he is MUCH better than he was in the beginning, but he is still very sick. We are unsure how much longer he will be hospitalized.
