My name is Edgar Geovanni Chicaiza. In December, I was unjustly detained by immigration agents while I was along with my brother working in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

For more than four hours, I was left exposed to below-freezing temperatures. During those moments, I truly believed I might never see my wife or my children again. I was then wrongfully detained and transferred to an immigration detention center in Kentucky, where I remained for weeks.

By the grace of God, I was able to return home. Since then, my recovery has been long, difficult, and painful. The prolonged exposure to extreme cold and the injuries I sustained during my detention caused severe damage to my back. This month on July 21st, I will undergo back surgery once again in the hope of relieving the constant pain I live with every day, restoring mobility to my foot, and giving me the chance to regain my quality of life.

Mi nombre es Edgar Geovanni Chicaiza. En diciembre, fui detenido injustamente por agentes de inmigración mientras trabajaba en Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Durante más de cuatro horas permanecí expuesto a temperaturas por debajo de cero. En esos momentos llegué a pensar que no volvería a abrazar a mi esposa ni a mis hijos. Posteriormente, fui detenido injustamente y trasladado a un centro de detención en Kentucky, donde permanecí durante semanas.

Gracias a dios, pude regresar a casa. Desde entonces, mi recuperación ha sido larga, difícil y llena de dolor. El tiempo que estuve expuesto al frío extremo y las lesiones que sufrí durante mi detención causaron graves daños en mi espalda. Este mes en Julio 21 seré sometido a una cirugía de espalda con la esperanza de aliviar el dolor constante con el que vivo todos los días, y con la esperanza de que pueda recuperar la movilidad de mi pie y aliviar el dolor de la espalda.
