Support Georgia's Recovery from Facial Feminization Surgery

Hi everyone!

About Me:

I’m Georgia! I am a trans woman living in the Bay Area. I am originally from South Florida and relocated to the Bay in the summer of 2024. Gratefully, I was able to attend a local university, receive a scholarship, and obtain a Master’s in Science degree from the University of San Francisco. During that program, I interned at the ACLU of Nor Cal and worked on civil rights cases! Activism and supporting my community are very important to me.

This GoFundMe is set up to provide a way for me to receive support as I recover from an upcoming major surgery: Facial Feminization Surgery.

About Healthcare:

One of the reasons for moving to the Bay was the increased access to gender-affirming care. I had lived in Florida for much of my life. There are very few social services available to queer people in Florida. I, like many other queer folk, experienced a lot of hardship trying to navigate the queer experience in such a hostile environment. Moving to California has afforded me not only great health care but also opportunities to receive the medical support needed to treat my gender dysphoria. Things like hormones, hair removal, surgery, and queer therapy are all now realistic opportunities for me.

I have been on hormones, been in therapy, and have had many sessions of hair removal. Incredibly, much of this is covered by my insurance. And for that, I am incredibly grateful. But in the case of a major surgery like FFS, there are burdens outside of the surgery. Things like food, care, and being unable to work can be a major burden for many trans women undergoing this surgery.

About the Surgery:

For those who do not know, Facial Feminization Surgery (often abbreviated FFS) is an umbrella term that encompasses a group of procedures. Every FFS operation is different and uniquely determined by each person’s features and goals. In my situation, I am undergoing quite a few procedures! These include brow reduction, hairline pulldown, rhinoplasty, eye and cheekbone shaping, chin reduction, and jawline shaving. Because FFS is such an intense operation (involving intense things like removing the forehead bone plate!), it is suggested to do these all at once. Unfortunately, this results in an intense recovery period.

It is very likely that I will be so swollen that I won’t be able to see for the first few days. I will be dependent on my friends and loved ones for the first week at least, possibly two weeks. I will be unable to do anything strenuous and will be unable to work for three weeks.

If you are able to donate to help support me during this time, it would be incredibly helpful. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated. This is one step in a journey that has been so rewarding. I would not have been able to do this without the support of my chosen family and my incredible community.

Thank you for reading this and have a great day!!!
