Hi everyone. I would like to introduce Georgia. She is a 2-year-old American bully. Most of the people who have met Georgia know she is the most loving, playful, and sweetest dog.
My boyfriend and I brought her into our home on September 28th, 2024, with open arms because she needed to be rehomed. She was healthy and very well taken care of.
We already had three very energetic, welcoming dogs at the house; one more wouldn’t hurt. Or so we thought…
Months go by and it’s now January 13, 2025. We took her to UCAN to get her spayed. No complications with surgery; all went well.
March 1st, 2025, we took her to Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital because she was having complications with releasing her bowels, and she was running a high fever of 105. She had also been panting a lot, so much it was abnormal.
They performed a rectal exam and said there was nothing to be concerned about and sent us home with three different medications, hoping it would help her release her bowels. No diagnosis; they told us that she could have a virus through the body and to watch her and take her internal temperature regularly.
Half an hour later, we get home and immediately give her the medication. About 20 minutes after, she started having tremors that lasted for about 5 minutes on and off.
We then rushed Georgia to the Care Center in Blue Ash because Noah’s Ark had just closed. They were amazing and took Georgia in immediately. They recommended us to get a CBC on her and another rectal exam. We ran the test and for her CBC, Georgia's white blood cell count was low and her red blood cells were average. Nothing out of the ordinary that they could tell what was wrong with her.
They also explained to us that the tremors she had could have been from the medication given. We took her home and we could definitely tell she was feeling a bit better, moving around the house more, getting up, playing with the other dogs. But every once in a while, she would start panting really bad again and just not wanting to do anything.
March 15, 2025, we took her to Grady’s Veterinary Hospital to see if we could get more answers, different opinions. They gave her fluids for being dehydrated, prescribed her amoxicillin, doxycycline, and mirtazapine. They again told us she could have a viral infection or virus in her body like a human body would. And we were also informed that Georgia has a heart murmur. They ran a major profile on her for more internal things like her heart and lungs, and also a heartworm and tick test for diseases of that.
They recommended for us to hospitalize Georgia for her being so sick and concerning. And we could not afford that route due to financial problems and funds we did not have at the time. We proceeded with the internal major profile and meds and were told to call back the next day for her results.
We took her home and kept a very big eye on her. I even called off work to make sure she was okay. Medication was keeping her temperature down for the most part that night.
The next day goes by and I call Grady’s for the results. I was told by her doctor to bring her in urgently. Nothing other was said.
We rushed her into Grady’s and were told that we should look into an endocrinologist specialist for more internal concerns like cancer and her heart. Considering she has a heart murmur, it was a very important part to take into account.
Basically, there was nothing more they could do for her because she needs better care than they could provide for her and us.
As of now, Georgia is not doing good and we really need all the support and help my boyfriend and I can get for her. We want nothing but the best for this dog and hate to see her suffer. We have put ourselves in so much debt just from all the vet visits, emergency visits, and check-ups for this sweet baby. We are praying we can end this and get her the help she needs.
