Our Story
Hello everyone, my name is George. My journey over the last two years has been a test of faith and resilience. In October 2024, I underwent an above-knee (AK) amputation on my right leg. After a year of battling persistent infections, I finally reached a milestone I’d been dreaming of: I was fitted for a prosthetic leg. January 13, 2026, was supposed to be the day I took my first steps toward a new normal.
A Sudden Turn of Events
Unfortunately, life had other plans. Instead of starting physical therapy with my new prosthetic, I had to undergo a second above-knee amputation—this time on my left leg. I am now back at the beginning, relearning how to navigate the simplest daily tasks.
To make matters more difficult, while my wife was on her way to visit me in the hospital on January 23rd, she was involved in a serious accident. Thankfully, she is okay, but our car was totaled, leaving us searching for a vehicle while I navigate my recovery.
Why We Need Your Help
While our insurance has been helpful with medical costs, they do not cover home accessibility. We currently have five stairs leading into our home, which are now an impassable barrier for me.
We are incredibly blessed to have a group of skilled friends who have volunteered their time and labor to build and install a wheelchair ramp. However, we are still short on the funds needed to purchase the lumber and hardware materials.
How You Can Help
Our goal is to raise enough to cover the cost of the ramp materials so I can safely enter and exit my home and begin the long road to recovery. Any contribution—no matter how small—will go directly toward making our home accessible again. We need approximately $10,000 to cover permits, hardware, and lumber.
