George Russell Bauer, known as George by his beloved coworkers at New Jersey American Water and as Russ by his friends and family, was seriously injured in a bicycle accident in late September while doing something he loved. At 65 years old, Russ had just retired after a long and dedicated career at New Jersey American Water Company, following in the footsteps of his father, Gerwin Bauer, and was looking forward to traveling and enjoying retirement with his family.

Russ grew up in Lakewood, New Jersey with his brother Skip, and has been a well-known and beloved member of his community. Whether he was on his bike, on the slopes at Elk Mountain, at the gym, or building something with his hands in his garage, Russ was someone who loved being active and helping others. He was the kind of person who could fix anything, build anything, and would go out of his way to help anyone who needed it, whether it was a coworker calling on his day off with a question, helping his granddaughter Samantha move across the country after graduate school, or helping his wife Marie around the house.

Since the accident, Russ has faced a long and challenging road to recovery. He sustained serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and is currently in a rehabilitation hospital receiving intensive care and therapy. The road ahead will require continued medical treatment, rehabilitation, and significant support as he works toward recovery.

The financial burden of medical costs and living expenses during this time is substantial. Funds raised through this campaign will help cover the costs associated with Russ’s ongoing care and recovery, allowing his family to focus on being by his side through this difficult journey.
