Support George Mason's Music Productions Club

Hello,

My name is Iker Rodriguez and I am writing on behalf of George Mason University’s Music Productions Club (GMU MPC). Recently, the Registered Student Organizations (RSO) department presented us with a $1,470 bill with the expectation to be paid off in two weeks. As college students who already have an insurmountable amount of tuition, the student-led officers are having trouble finding ways to raise this amount of money with the narrow window the university presented to us. They threaten to remove the club if we cannot make up this money.

Musical education is one of the most important factors in developing a stronger education, with research and data suggesting that it triggers the same functions as learning a new language; strengthening your linguistic development. Many students, over 100 according to our discord server, use our club to come out of their shells and build confidence while connecting with other students from different backgrounds and experiences. Our club unites various people through the love for self-expression and musical appreciation. As an unorthodox music club, many members are non-music majors who wish to share their stories. With the termination of this club, the 100+ members will be left in the dark as to why the regular performances and open mic sessions have abruptly ended. We, as the student officers, want to keep this phenomenal, growing, and student-led, club strong and healthy for the future and continue to inspire and uplift those who have used this welcoming space as a means to grow artistically and as individuals, such as myself.

All the funds earned will go directly back to the club, using it to pay off the debt in the narrow window that the university has burdened us. Any other remaining funds via this fundraiser will go back into the club, upgrading gear and repairing any broken or missing equipment to ensure that performances go as smoothly as possible.

Any amount that you can donate will be deeply appreciated and cherished by the club officers and by extension the students who come to our weekly meetings to share their love for music with others.
